Marguerite is the inspiration for vintage ride

Picture

Launched in 2008, VDUB At The PUB is a family friendly music and VW festival based in Wimborne Minster. This year the festival is expanding to include Dorset Goes Vintage which includes the 1st Wimborne Vintage Bicycle Ride!
  • 'Inspiration for the weekend. Meet Marguerite Wilson - the UK's first female professional cyclist. During the 1930's, Marguerite held women's distance records, including Land's End to John o'Groats and 1,000 miles. The press of the day dubbed her 'The Blond Bombshell from Bournemouth.' #women #cycling #kickassgirl #bournemouth'

Break Away - The heroes and hell raisers that made road cycling
by Euan Ferguson

I was delighted to be contacted by Anna Watson, Editor at Publisher Frances Lincoln, asking if I could help with information and photographs for Euan Ferguson's book Break Away which was to feature fifty heroes and hell raisers that made road cycling. I was pleased to help, sending a copy of Marguerite Wilson, The First Star of Women's Cycling and later, a couple of choice photographs.
In the completed book Marguerite sits between Fausto Coppi and Louison/Jean Bobet. I was delighted that Marguerite has been recognised, and amongst such exulted company!
